Happy Halloween 2014 - now onto November

Some thoughts on 2014 Halloween HECTIC in a word. Going back to Thursday an Luca’s preschool party. We had planned to kind of step away from the whole party thing and do the trunk or treat. Kristine especially did NOT want to get involved doing food, or staffing any activity tables (which was good because we were WAY late) so she only signed up for the trunk or treat task. BUT….with good intentions I told Jerica that we’d bring something else to add to the food (the sign up list looked weak!) Add to the fact that we lost a ½ hour wrangling Li out of GVA, killing our dress up and pack lead time, we also had to stop for Subway and we ended up like 45 minutes late. Surprisingly we managed a great spot for the trunk or treat and the lights and crow were more than enough. Even scared a few kids with it fully on (Poor Ely!) Roz exhibited a bit of sadism as she enjoyed seeing the kids freak out and even tried to pull the mask down on my face when I was handing out treats. Hmmmm. (this in addition to her shyness about seeing both Missus Bonema and Tristan at the party – she’s a complex little gal!) Luca, he just rolled with it. Had a great time. Period. And that Iron man kept him warm (it was surprisingly cold standing out by t he car in the parking lot) Kristine dressed up like a clown using stuff already around the house. She comes down and Li says” Oh….you dressed like traditional Chinese Character….) what the ??? On Friday Roslyn rallied for GVA costume parade – afternoon weather was great. Mum shot a few photos. Everybody back at the house at 5:00 to get ready for the big night. Ros started to drop off again but rallied enough to venture out with me and luca (eating frozen pizza and pb and honey sandwiches) Kris was to staff the door and start the count. First trick or treaters at 600. Me and kids were in the wagon on our planned route out and back at 615. Roslyn and Luca both hit the first –oh maybe 10-12 houses together. (Garwoods, Riecherts) then Roz gave up (she got cold and only wanted to huddle in the blanket and sit in the wagon) Luca continued on and ended up with a bag twice as heavy as Roslyn’s. She didn’t mind. We finished at Polly and Kents (after seeing the dragon a block away) . Roz went immediately in and crashed on the couch – pretty much done for the night. The transition between me taking over door duties and kris spending some time with the kids was awkward…..mostly due to me. I can’t count and work the door same time. So our “official” count was off as soon as I took over. we managed to get it together, Luca joined us outside and had a blast. Final count was 186 Luca did NOT want to come in. he stayed on the porch until like 930 expectantly waiting for more kids to come. Me and Kris floated in and out (it cold cold….stayed clear but crispy cold) The trick or treaters pretty much dropped off about 830 but he and I hung out there goofing around. It was great. We have supplies left over for next year. The kids did NOT get inundated with candy…..just a good amount. (and lots of Reeses and Kitkats this year) By Saturday Roz was feeling better. Luca had a good Saturday but by Sunday he was on the downhill and the funk Roslyn had on Thursday/Friday, caught up with him Sunday afternoon.. Dang! Happy Halloween Weekend. Good times!
