Foghorn Leghorn

Brilliant!!!

Barnyard Dawg

Henery... simply brilliant

… a foil for Henery Hawk, who had been established several years earlier — but his brassy voice (created by voice actor Mel Blanc, but based on Kenny Delmar's "Senator Claghorn" from the Fred Allen radio show) and utter indifference to his listeners made him, in fact, the star. It also garnered that cartoon an Oscar nomination. (Delmar, by the way, also did cartoon voices, and echoes of Claghorn could be heard in The Hunter and Commander McBragg.)

The overbearing rooster quickly graduated to his own series, all directed by McKimson. He received star billing in Crowing Pains (1947), and appeared regularly through the rest of the 1940s and '50s. His last appearance was in Banty Raids (1963). Henery Hawk was reduced to occasional appearances as Foghorn's foil. More often, Foghorn was pitted against either the farmer's dog (called George P. Dog on model sheets, tho the only time the name was used on-screen was on the Bugs Bunny TV show) or a fellow denizen of the henhouse.

Because his humor depended so heavily on his voice, Foghorn Leghorn never made it big outside of cartoons. So when the Warner Bros. animation unit was phased out, he was reduced to between-cartoon fillers on TV and an occasional gig in a commercial. As the 1970s and '80s wore on, he would appear once in a while on a TV special or in a compilation movie, but never again as a headliner. Blanc's death in 1989 ensured that he would never quite be his old self again.

He was never forgotten, however, because it requires only a small exposure, via any TV station that carries one or more of the "Looney Tunes" cartoon packages, for that voice to be imprinted forever in the viewer's memory.

Foggy made a cameo in Who Framed Roger Rabbit in 1988. Then, along with Tweety, Porky and other Warner Bros. stars, he appeared in the 1996 movie Space Jam, starring Michael Jordan. He was also in a new theatrical short, Pullet Surpises, that same year. Since then, he's been seen in occasional commercials with Jordan. But with Mel Blanc gone, he is simply not able to recapture his old glory.

The Console en vivre

panels...

LTR
Original in Green
Original in original color scheme
Flat in Green
Flat unpainted

Have simple brush nickel handles for the flat panel if we go with that.

my console

on the verge of tacking the loft (it's either rainy and blah out or it's WAY too hot (105 yesterday), I made a pit stop to the Habitat store to look for a console that would fit the room. mayn, was my perspective off.

I got a great deal on it but turns out to be a little big for the room.

and it's 1950's stain color so it looks entirely dated.

OK....Ralph Lauren Polo collection pops in my head. Dark blue with pasty green pea trim. The combination looks great together. One thing about Ralphy is that he knows classic colors. These two together remind me of something classic and still vibrant.

Got the unit painted Blue yesterday. ( 2 plus coats)
working on the doors now, but are considering a change. The doors have a 4 panel somewhat gothic detail to em. I originally wanted to paint either the raise trim or the blocks between. After getting the green on the entire thing, I think it needs to be simple. The unit looked busy with all those details and I don't want to bring that back by isolating either the blocks or the trim. All green it is.

Another option which I'm totally prepared for is to make simple, flat new doors with simple brush nickel handles. Mod it up a bit. THEN the color block even makes more sense. Keep it simple.

Pics to come...

Time for a new wet saw

Spent yesterday afternoon working on the patio. Saw is slowly dying. barely could cut a rock after about an hour. I oiled it up, let it cool overnight and will try again today. But I think it's on it's last leg.

Maybe time to consider a bit larger more professional one. time to Froogle!

Front Porches

Front Porch in Laramie.

Intended to go camping last friday, but got there and there was not only a fire ban, but fire works ban and you couldn't even have a charcoal BBQ in a smokey joe. (been really dry here lately)

So, we packed up and drove back to Laramie. Set the smokey joe up on front porch and hung out there from about 7 to 10. The neighbor across the street has a really cool house too. NEver seen it at night (except late late night as we stumbled home after seeing the band)

We're on the porch watching the street life from sunset to complete darkness. It was just fun. Outside life turned to inside life across the street.

There is car traffic, but not too much and not too little. Just right. People riding bikes and walking. Some rednecks in the alley smoking cigs and chasing the cats with super soakers (who came back in like ten minutes to their favorite spots which you could mark down with a dime-not an inch off)

It was almost choreographed with the time. Dogs barking. Neighbors laughing as they leave their house for dinner or to get a drink (and then back later VERY happy) Flash of lightning in the distance. Car hits the manhole cover on the next block. Windchimes with an occasion jingle. There was never more than about 30-40 sec lull before SOMETHING interesting happened. Reminded me of Rear Window, without the murder. (well, mayber there was (one of the cats whom we didn't see after 10PM??)) Better than TV and super nice change of pace.

Our neighborhood in FC seems sterile compared to that.

No one walks, everyone drives (and not down our street but the fast one adjacent) no one spends time on their porch except for us (and they probably think we are the strange ones) All of the garage doors immediately close after someone comes home. All the windows are shuttered with the AC on. It’s weird.

I took a vitamin and now I feel nauseous. time for something new....
